About Us

The first Bramley Carnival took place in 1892. Since then the Carnival has run every year except during the Second World War and for a 10 year period between 1996 and 2006. In 2006, the Carnival was resurrected with the support of Awards for All. Since then the Carnival has grown in scale and sustainability. In January 2009 the Friends Of Bramley Carnival was established by the local MP, a Bramley Councillor and representatives from local voluntary sector agencies, residents groups, schools and faith organisations. Our aim is to make the Carnival more inclusive, safe and well attended. For instance - in regard to the Marvellous Bramley Carnival Tea Dance - Bramley Elderly Action will provide transport and we will not charge people to enter although we will recoup some costs through the sale of refreshments and cakes.

With the support of the Police / West Yorkshire / St Johns Ambulance / Kirkstall Festival and Unity Day, we have developed a range of practices and procedures to ensure the smooth and safe running of the Carnival. For instance, we work closely with West Yorkshire Police and Highways to ensure the safety of the parade. Attendance of St John First Aiders, Fire Services, and the Police has been confirmed. In regard to safety of children and young people, we comply with our safeguarding policy (available on request) e.g. we ensure that there is a private tented area within the park for lost children. This is supervised by a CRB checked individual who has relevant experience.
